Position: Treasurer
Central University of Science and Technology (CUST) invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and dynamic individuals for consideration for the position of Treasurer.
The Treasurer is a statutory officer of the University and will be responsible for ensuring sound financial management, transparency, accountability, regulatory compliance and effective stewardship of the University’s financial resources.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must hold a Master’s degree from a recognised university, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (MBA) or a related discipline. Candidates holding a PhD or relevant professional qualification will be given preference.
- Must have a strong academic record, with no third class/division or equivalent grade at any stage of education.
- Must have a minimum of 15 years of experience in teaching, university administration, financial management, accounting, finance or related senior-level responsibilities in a university or comparable institution.
- Candidates with substantial experience in financial planning, budgeting, accounting, audit, internal control, institutional governance and regulatory compliance will be preferred.
- Previous experience as a Treasurer of a university will carry additional weight in the selection process.
- Candidates should possess strong leadership, analytical, communication and decision-making skills.
- A high standard of professional integrity, accountability, transparency and ethical conduct is essential.
- Experience in working with university governing bodies, regulatory authorities and senior academic management will be considered an advantage.
The Treasurer will be responsible for:
- Supervising the funds and financial resources of the University.
- Overseeing the overall financial management and financial administration of the University.
- Preparing, implementing and monitoring the annual budget.
- Ensuring proper maintenance of accounts, financial records and supporting documents.
- Monitoring income, expenditure, cash flow and financial commitments.
- Establishing and maintaining appropriate financial controls and internal control systems.
- Coordinating preparation of annual financial statements, management reports and other financial reports.
- Facilitating internal and external audit activities.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, University policies, regulatory requirements.
- Experience: 15+ years
