Job Description

Company Description Centre for Critical Discourse (CCD) is an independent research and public-discourse organization based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, focusing on the intersections of political economy, ecology, gender, labour, governance and inequality across Bangladesh and South Asia. CCD connects community-based action research with scholarship from universities and research institutions, building dialogue among communities, academia and public policy. The organization engages closely with feminist and labour movements, environmental and agrarian struggles, and anti-colonial approaches to knowledge and pedagogy. Through praxis seminars, public dialogues, workshops, classrooms, cinema and art practices, CCD centers marginalized communities in critical inquiry and connects students and researchers with lived realities beyond conventional academic spaces. A major current focus is the political ecology of marginalized coastal communities around the Bay of Bengal, exploring environmental governance, conservation, tourism, maritime insecurity, livelihoods and local economies while fostering collaborative research and public engagement with partners in Bangladesh, South Asia and internationally.

Role Description The Student Intern role at CCD is a full-time, hybrid position based in Dhaka, with flexibility for some work from home. The intern will support ongoing community-based research projects, including literature reviews, data collection assistance, transcription, field notes organization and basic qualitative analysis. Day-to-day tasks may involve preparing research summaries, drafting reports or blog posts, assisting in organizing public events and seminars, and contributing to communications such as newsletters and social media updates. The intern will help coordinate logistics for workshops and dialogues, maintain project documentation, and collaborate with team members and community partners in a respectful and inclusive manner. The role also includes opportunities to participate in internal learning sessions, praxis seminars and mentoring meetings to develop critical research skills and understanding of CCD’s thematic areas.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess foundational research skills, including literature review, basic qualitative methods, note-taking and data organization.
  • Candidates should possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Bangla is highly beneficial.
  • Candidates should possess organizational and coordination skills to assist with events, workshops, field visits and project logistics.
  • Candidates should possess digital literacy skills, including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, online collaboration tools and social media.
  • Candidates should possess an interest in critical social theory, political ecology, feminist and labour movements, environmental justice or related fields.
  • Enrollment in or recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate program in social sciences, humanities, environmental studies, development studies or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams, engage respectfully with marginalized communities and maintain ethical research practices is essential.
  • Prior experience with community-based initiatives, student collectives, research projects or advocacy work will be considered an advantage.
