Part-Time Geotechnical Engineer – AI, Data & Monitoring

Role Description The Part-Time Geotechnical Engineer – AI, Data & Monitoring will work on-site in Hong Kong, supporting the integration of geotechnical engineering with data analytics, AI tools, and automated monitoring systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include contributing to site and ground investigations, reviewing instrumentation layouts, and assisting with data acquisition, processing, and validation from monitoring systems. The role involves interpreting ground and structural behaviour, preparing concise engineering assessments, and supporting reporting for deep excavations, tunnelling, building monitoring, and other ground-risk projects. The engineer will collaborate with project teams to refine monitoring strategies, improve data workflows, and help implement digital solutions that enhance engineering intelligence. This is a part-time role, with working hours to be agreed based on project needs.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering, including soil mechanics and applied Geotechnical Engineering.
• Experience with Site Investigation and Engineering Geology, including logging, sampling, and interpretation of subsurface conditions.
• Knowledge of Foundation Design principles for deep and shallow foundations in complex ground environments.
• Ability to work with monitoring data, including basic data analysis, visualization, and interpretation of trends.
• Experience or interest in AI, data analytics, and digital monitoring tools for geotechnical applications.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related field.
• Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly in written and verbal form.
• Ability to work safely on site, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage part-time schedules effectively.
• Previous experience with infrastructure, tunnelling, deep excavation, or structural monitoring projects is an advantage.
