Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and creative Head of Design & Development to lead the organization’s design and product development function. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in seasonal fashion trends, product design, material and color development, print, embroidery, embellishment, costing, and production feasibility.

The position will be responsible for translating customer and brand requirements into commercially viable products while leading the design and product development team to deliver innovative, quality-focused, and production-ready products within budget and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Design & Product Development team and ensure effective execution of all product development activities.
• Analyze and interpret seasonal fashion trends, color trends, material trends, silhouettes, and market directions.
• Develop innovative and commercially viable products based on customer, buyer, and brand requirements.
• Create and implement product design and development strategies aligned with the company's business objectives.
• Develop seasonal concepts and inspirations for embroidery, prints, embellishments, trims, fabrics, and other design elements.
• Provide creative print design and development support to different customers according to their specific requirements.
• Translate design concepts into commercially viable and production-feasible products.
• Work closely with production, merchandising, sourcing, technical, and other relevant teams to ensure smooth product development and execution.
• Evaluate the production feasibility of developed products and identify potential technical or manufacturing challenges before bulk production.
• Develop detailed costing and cost blueprints for designed and developed products.
• Monitor product development costs and ensure designs are developed within approved budgets.
• Present design concepts, costing, product changes, development status, and budgetary information effectively to senior management and customers.
• Provide regular updates on product development progress, challenges, timelines, and required actions.
• Drive product innovation and continuously explore new ideas, techniques, materials, and design solutions to create competitive advantages for customers.
• Think creatively and develop new or improved product solutions based on market trends and customer expectations.
• Maintain strong awareness of international fashion trends, customer preferences, and emerging design directions.
• Ensure that developed products meet required standards of design, quality, cost, functionality, and production feasibility.
• Lead the team effectively while working within defined budget, manpower, and resource constraints.
• Mentor, guide, and develop team members to strengthen their design and product development capabilities.
• Build a collaborative working environment between design, development, production, merchandising, and management teams.
• Ensure timely completion of product development activities in line with customer requirements and business priorities.
  
  

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
• Candidates with an educational background from Bangladesh University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) will be preferred.
• Relevant professional qualifications or specialized training in fashion/product design will be an added advantage.
  
  

Experience & Requirements

• Proven experience in fashion design, product development, apparel, textile, or related industries.
• Strong understanding of seasonal fashion, color, material, print, embroidery, and embellishment trends.
• Strong knowledge of product development processes from concept/design stage through production.
• Ability to develop commercially viable products based on buyer and brand requirements.
• Strong understanding of product costing and production feasibility.
• Excellent creative, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, buyers, senior management, and cross-functional teams.
