The position will work closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, HR & Administration, Security, Stores, Projects, Procurement, and contractors to integrate EHS requirements into daily operations and business activities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual EHS strategies, objectives, action plans, and KPIs.
- Establish and continuously improve the site EHS management system, procedures, standards, and governance framework.
- Implement risk-based approaches to prevent workplace injuries, occupational illness, environmental incidents, and operational disruptions.
- Integrate EHS requirements into projects, procurement, contractor management, and operational changes.
- Ensure legal compliance, emergency preparedness, and management accountability.
- Promote a proactive culture of reporting, learning, participation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable EHS laws, permits, standards, and company requirements.
- Maintain legal and permit registers, compliance calendars, and relevant documentation.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections, third-party assessments, and statutory submissions.
- Lead internal and external EHS audits and ensure timely closure of non-conformities.
- Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and operational-control reviews.
- Implement and monitor Permit-to-Work, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), chemical safety, machine safety, and contractor safety systems.
- Review high-risk activities, projects, and operational changes.
- Stop or escalate unsafe work and ensure corrective actions are completed before resuming operations.
- Ensure effective risk controls across factory operations.
- Ensure timely reporting, classification, investigation, and documentation of incidents and near misses.
- Lead root-cause analysis and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyze incident trends and communicate lessons learned.
- Escalate significant incidents and risks to management with appropriate recommendations.
- Lead programs covering machine safety, electrical safety, ergonomics, chemical safety, PPE, and workplace hygiene.
- Coordinate occupational-health risk assessments, exposure monitoring, medical surveillance, and first-aid readiness.
- Establish safety requirements for contractors, visitors, and temporary workers.
- Conduct safety observations, field engagements, and leadership safety walks.
- Manage environmental aspects, impacts, permits, and operational controls.
- Oversee waste management, emissions, effluent, noise, spill prevention, and pollution-control systems.
- Monitor environmental performance related to energy, water, waste, and other relevant indicators.
- Ensure accurate environmental monitoring, documentation, reporting, and improvement actions.
- Develop and maintain emergency-response and fire-safety plans.
- Ensure readiness of fire protection systems, alarms, emergency exits, equipment, and response teams.
- Organize emergency drills and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Coordinate responses to fire, chemical releases, medical emergencies, natural hazards, and other site emergencies.
- Develop the EHS training matrix and annual training plan.
- Conduct employee induction, toolbox talks, refresher training, and competency assessments.
- Lead EHS committee meetings, safety campaigns, awareness programs, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Communicate EHS performance, risks, incidents, and lessons learned to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain EHS dashboards and report leading and lagging indicators to management.
- Conduct management and compliance reviews and analyze EHS trends.
- Track corrective, preventive, and improvement actions through to closure.
- Lead EHS improvement projects to reduce risks and strengthen compliance.
- Lead and manage the EHS team to ensure effective implementation of EHS plans and controls.
- Assign responsibilities, review team performance, and provide technical coaching.
- Coordinate departmental EHS representatives, emergency-response teams, fire wardens, first aiders, and contractor safety personnel.
- Promote accountability, participation, learning, and operational discipline.
- Executive / Officer – EHS
- Fire & Safety Personnel, as assigned.
- Experience: 7 to 10 years
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline., Postgraduate qualification in EHS, Environmental Management, Engineering, or Business Management will be preferred., Professional certification in Occupational Safety, Fire Safety, Incident Investigation, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 auditing will be an added advantage.
